From Nurse To Cloud Engineer in 5 months
Do you come from a non-technical background and wonder if you can still get a job in the cloud industry?
Well let me tell you the story of how a woman in the UK was able to make the change from being a nurse to getting her first job as a cloud engineer
I want you to pay special attention to the steps she took so that you too can break into the cloud industry even if you don’t come from a technical background
Why did She Transition Into The Cloud Industry?
Before we dive into this, it is important to understand her reason for transitioning to the cloud.
Being a nurse is a very difficult job, it involves a lot of long hours and physical labour .
She had been doing this for 13years and while she found the work rewarding she really needed a job that allowed her to work remotely so she could spend more time with her family.
After doing some research she decided a cloud job would be right for her and so she does what most people do, she starts learning the basics, she gets some AWS certifications, and begins applying for jobs.
A year goes by and she is still job hunting with no success, she doesn't hear back from recruiters and is starting to feel demotivated, wondering if she would ever be able to break into the cloud industry.
I know for some of you this sounds painfully familiar but don't worry there is a happy ending.
Eventually she discovers cloud career mentor and we are able to identify where she was going wrong. She was making the same mistakes all cloud beginners make:
- She focused too much certifications and not did not have a lot of hands on projects
- She focused only on learning AWS technology and neglected other important technologies like Linux, Terraform, Git, CICD and python
- She wasn't good and talking about her experience on her resume or in interview
After she realised the mistakes she was making she decided to sign up for our program so she could build the skills she needed to get a cloud job.
She dived in with enthusiasm and followed all the steps perfectly.
She got her hands dirty building high quality cloud projects; automated infrastructure with Terraform; built complex multi-environment CICD pipelines; learned how to program with Python and much much more.
She built up her cloud skills and confidence over time and once she was ready, she updated her resume and started applying for jobs.
Pretty soon her phone starts ringing as she begins getting calls from recruiters.
Now remember, she’d been a nurse for 13 years and so her interview skills were quite rusty. So she arranged a mock interview with a Senior Solution Architect at Cloud Career Mentor and he helped her prepare for her upcoming interviews.
He was able to improve her interview skills so she could walk into the interview with confidence.
He was able to improve her interview skills so she could walk into the interview with confidence.
Because of all the hard work she put in she was able to get her first job as a junior Devops Engineer only 5 months after signing up to the Cloud Career Mentor program
She is now able to enjoy the remote work she wanted when she started on her cloud journey
I am always happy to read the positive testimonials we get from our students and here is what she wrote:
"This course was exactly what I needed! The videos are so easy to follow and understand, and the hands on projects really helped me to develop my skills. After completing my initial course, I wasn't really sure what to focus on next but this course provides a structure to follow which I have found extremely useful.
Cloud Career Mentor is extremely supportive and I will be forever grateful to them for not only providing this course, but also for their help and guidance relating to job applications, resume writing and interview preparation. I am so grateful to have found this course, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is transitioning into the Cloud industry. Thank you so much Cloud Career Mentor."
