How to Ace Your Cloud Interviews: Revealing Secret Success Rules for Cloud Beginners

Are you wondering why you are constantly facing rejections for your cloud interviews?

It can be discouraging and make you feel as if your hard work doesn’t translate into your job offers. This might be because you are unaware of the secret rules to success in your cloud interviews.

In this blog, you are going to learn the unspoken rules of interviewing, and in our 5+ years in the industry, we have discovered no one is talking about these.

TAKE NOTES!  This might be what you need to pass your next interview. Ready to dive in? Let's go.

Before we begin, here is a quick disclaimer. These rules will not work if you have not put in the work to make yourself employable. What does this mean? Let us cover the foundation of what it means to be employable.

What it means to be employable

Before diving into the secret rules, it is important to lay the foundations of success, and to be employable in the cloud industry, you need to consider these three steps:

  • Solid understanding of cloud fundamentals: Linux Command Line, AWS, Terraform, Bash, Python, Serverless, and more

  • Need to have completed multiple high-quality cloud projects: With the topics mentioned above, these are the projects you will talk about in the interviews

  • Write an attractive resume: An attractive resume will attract recruiters and make them want to interview you.

Now that you are aware of the three steps, you are now in the best position to use the secret rules we are about to mention. Now let’s dive into these rules for success.

Secret rule #1: Preparation is Key

“Those who fail to prepare prepare to fail." We are sure you have heard this quote before, and it applies when having an interview, but more people start an interview more unprepared than you think, and you might be asking yourself if you fall under this category.

The best way to prepare for an interview is

  • Research the company: explore the company’s website and find out their mission, achievements, and goals, then mention the specific details in your interview to set you apart from the rest.
An example of this is, “I saw on your website that one of your business goals is to make the world a better place through your software, I believe in that mission too and want to use my skills to contribute to that mission.”
  • Practice common interview questions: Find out the most common cloud interview questions and rehearse your responses until you can recite them in your sleep. Remember, confidence comes from preparation.
I have a module in the cloud career program tailored to answering technical and non-technical interview questions.

  • Tailor answers to job descriptions: You need to customize your responses based on the job specifications and emphasise the skills and experiences relevant to the job. Many people give generic answers in interviews, so tailoring your answers to the job description will set you apart from everyone else.

Secret Rule #2: Body Language Matters

This might seem obvious, but many candidates often ignore this. Non-verbal communication plays an important role in interviews and accounts for 70–93% of all communication, according to an article I read recently. Here is how to use body language to your advantage.

  • Enter with a Smile: You need to be able to project positivity by entering the interview room, or making a Zoom call with a smile. It sets a positive tone and signals confidence.

  • Relax and be positive: Fight the nerves by approaching the interview as a conversation rather than a formal assessment. If you show off a relaxed demeanor, it encourages a positive impression.

REMEMBER! Projecting confidence is to follow the first secret which is to be prepared!
